ATG Sponsor, the ADAPT Metal Detecting group, to be stars of the small screen!

On Friday 29th July, under the leadership of Rod Toms, a group of metal detectorists were filmed on the shores of the Mar Menor by a professional film crew, working for a well known UK television show. The process actually started the day before at Rod’s house where he explained the work of metal detecting in detail to the film crew and showed them some of the group’s finds.

Friday started for Rod at 4.55 a.m. when he was filmed loading his car with his detecting equipment and they set off for the Mar Menor. “Many of our members were interviewed personally and were able to give interesting and informative answers about all aspects of our hobby. After filming us detecting in the waters of the Mar Menor, the film crew followed me to San Pedro port area where we met up with the Hippocampus scuba divers and donated our July batch of nearly 5 kilos of lead removed from the sea, as part of our cooperation with the Plumbum project.

“It was a great experience and our club members sent out the message that we are  definitely on the map and to let people know that we are not looters but there to help  protect the environment.”

We will post here when we find out when the programme will be broadcast – watch this space!
